BSoG Career Evening

On 13 November, the BSoG organised a career event for its BA and MA students. Moderated by the Director of our BA in International Affairs Programme Prof Tongfi Kim, it featured a panel of four young professionals with very diverse career backgrounds. The BSoG was happy to welcome Marius Houwen from Microsoft, Sarah Krimi from Make Mothers Matter, Ellen Moser from Egmont Institute as well as Paola Lo Bue Oddo from the European Commission - it is particularly noteworthy that the first two panelists have been BSoG alumni themselves!

During a first part, the panelists were asked about their jobs, their daily work environments as well as recommendations for students potentially interested in embarking on similar career paths. Later on, students got the chance to ask questions themselves, both to individual panelists as well as all of them together, with students engaging happily in this part.

Later on, a reception was held, with all of the participants having the chance to mingle over pizza and meet the panelists on a more bilateral basis. It was amazing to see the panelists be open to the individual conversations, which filled the event space of BSoG for more than an hour. Overall, happy faces eventually left the building, showing which interesting thoughts had been shared on this evening. Special thanks go to Prof. Kim for organising and moderating the event, the four panelists for being with us, the BSoG events team for their continuous support as well as all participants for their interests!
The career event was incredibly insightful! Hearing from professionals at Egmont Institute, the European Commission, Microsoft, and Make Mothers Matter gave me a comprehensive view of diverse career paths, from international relations to technology and advocacy. Their knowledge motivated me to look for new chances and consider alternatives to conventional professional paths.

The career workshop event was a great opportunity to discover and reflect more on our pathway to a professional career. I found It very interesting and helpful to hear the experiences and recommendations of people who were in our position not too long ago and can still truly empathise with our doubts and problems. The panelists answered all our questions extensively and even dedicated time to engage in more individual conversations after the session, which I really appreciated. Overall, I believe this event was very eye-opening and useful for us students in the middle of our academic path to start acquiring a clearer vision for the future.

I think it was a great opportunity to learn more about career opportunities in Brussels, and the personal experiences of the panelists made the opportunities in our cities seem much more accessible. I also appreciated the chance to socialise with panelists as well as other students during the reception at the end.
