Film 'Bunker' sparks reflection on media influence and truth

On 20 September, the Brussels School of Governance hosted a screening of the thought-provoking film 'Bunker' for the students of its BA in International Affairs. The screening of the film was followed by a discussion with the director. The event was moderated by Samuel Doveri Vesterbye, Director of the European Neighbourhood Council, and Farhod Rahmatov, Internews Project Director for Central Asia. The gathering saw a diverse audience, including BSoG students keen on this subject.

The "Bunker" project produced a short film that explores the impact of propaganda on individuals who heavily rely on television as their primary news source. Through the film's characters, viewers can understand the importance of identifying fake news and manipulations. The story encourages critical thinking and prompts audiences to reflect on the information they consume.

The narrative revolves around Asel, a young girl who spends her days confined within four walls, working as a seamstress alongside five other women. They tirelessly sew uniforms for soldiers fighting for their country. The news continuously reports on young boys fighting for independence against invaders, accompanied by warnings of a looming "nuclear winter" outside. Asel unquestioningly believes this narrative until one day she begins noticing inconsistencies in the news anchor's words. Follow Asel's journey as she strives to uncover the truth.
