Circular economy conference “Turning waste into a resource”

On Tuesday February 27 policy think tank Public Policy Exchange arranged a full day conference in downtown Brussels on “Fostering the Transition towards a Circular economy in Europe: Turning Waste into a Resource”.  The conference was quite suitably arranged at the very moment that the COREPER reached an agreement on the “classic hard core” of the Circular Economy package: four pieces of waste legislation. IES professor Harri Kalimo chaired the conference, where the participants included a wide range of stakeholders. Different levels of government from the European Commission to national and local authorities were accompanied by representatives from key industries, including plastics, paper and beverage containers. The focus in the field is shifting from the legislative flurry to implementation, further information collection and more qualitative objectives, prof Kalimo summarised in concluding the conference.
