IES Prof Ilke Adam proposes background note on how to move forward with EU immigration policies

On 24 October, Ilke Adam gave a keynote speech at the landmark European Conference ‘From Tampere 20 to Tampere 2.0. Towards a new programme (2020-24) for EU migration and asylum policies 20 years after the Tampere conclusions’. This conference brought together high-level policy makers, experts, academics and civil society leaders reflecting on the 20 years of European immigration policies and the way forward.  All key-note speakers produced a background note which was discussed with a panel and with the conference participants. The background notes evaluated 20 years of EU policies and proposed recommendations for the new programme. They will feed into the European Council of December 2019. Ilke Adam co-authored a background paper on EU immigrant integration policies, which was discussed by 4 panelists and a full room of participants. She is critical of the term integration and proposes to tackle institutional racism. More information on the conference and the background notes can be found here.
