KF-VUB Korea Chair Pan-European Korean Peninsula Security Writing Contest!

Are you interested in Korean Peninsula security affairs? Do you want to share your views with an audience including policy-makers, researchers, journalists and other experts on Asian affairs? Do you want to win €500 and the possibility of spending a two-month paid internship in Brussels? Are you an Undergraduate student based at a European university? Then do join the KF-VUB Korea Chair Pan-European Korean Peninsula Security Writing Contest!

The KF-VUB Korea Chair, the primary contact point in Europe on policy issues related to the Korean Peninsula, is calling on all Undergraduate students based at a European university to submit an abstract on a topic related to Korean Peninsula security affairs of their choice. Potential topics include North Korea’s nuclear and WMD programmes, inter-Korean relations, EU’s security role in the Korea Peninsula, the US-ROK alliance and any other issue of importance to security in the Korean Peninsula. Up to fifteen students will then be invited to submit their full policy brief.

Students should submit a 100-word abstract by October 31st (23:59 CET) to the following e-mail address: koreachaircontest@gmail.com. Please use your university email address and state your year of study to verify your eligibility. Otherwise your abstract will not be considered.

A Selection Committee comprised of KF-VUB Korea Chair Holder Dr Ramon Pacheco Pardo, KF-VUB Korea Chair PhD Researcher Ms Linde Desmaele, Institute for European Studies Projects & Events Assistant Ms Paula Cantero Dieguez and Director of the Korea Foundation Berlin Office Ms Lee Suyon will then evaluate your abstract based on three criteria: its relevance to the topic of the contest (i.e., Korean Peninsula security), the feasibility of developing the full argument in 700 to 800 words, and the originality of the argument.

The Selection Committee will invite up to fifteen students to submit a 700 to 800-word policy brief by November 30th (23:59 CET).The winning entry will be announced by December 14th. The winner will receive €500; have the possibility of having its brief published as part of the KF-VUB Korea Chair monthly Policy Brief series in 2019; and be invited to a paid internship with the KF-VUB Korea Chair at the Institute for European Studies of Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
