Very Cool EU law at Tampere University

The approaching Greek elections and the EU economic crisis were amongst the hot topics that got a group of sixty winter-struck international students warmed up in Tampere University in January.

With temperatures reaching below -20°c, IES Senior Research Fellow and LLM Programme Director, Harri Kalimo, gave the Italian, Greek and Brazilian participants a taste of what diversity truly means in the European Union: theories on harmonizing the rules on, for example, agricultural policies and energy efficiency, which cannot escape the realities of the physical world. And these realities can be quite different in Thessaloniki and Tampere. Exploring the means and scope of EU integration against this backdrop, the group came to a common conclusion: to accomplish the right balance between diversity and uniformity, EU law must be very cool indeed!
