BSoG MA students shine in Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge 2024

Bruxnet

Four Master's students at BSoG, Vesa Bujupaj, Yuchen Ding, Daniel Ordonez, and Torstein Stavland, actively participated in the Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge 2024, which was held on 4 and 5 April. The event was organized by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy and the Atlantic Council, and aimed at providing students from top universities worldwide with a better understanding of the policy challenges related to cyber crisis and conflict.

The competition was a unique blend of interactive learning and competitive scenario exercise, which challenged teams to respond to a realistic and evolving cyber attack and analyse the threat it posed to national, international, and private sector interests. The students were able to interact with expert mentors and high-level cyber professionals while developing valuable skills in policy analysis and presentation. The competition was an active learning process that allowed the students to make the best use of the insights and build further knowledge on cybersecurity course.

The team 'Bruxnet', led by their coach, Professor Francesco Cappelletti, and aided by the guidance and expertise of some former BSoG students who now lead the Cyber initiative, was selected from numerous applicants. The team gave an impressive analysis of the scenario in the selection round and went through the semifinal round along with 16 other teams, exhibiting an excellent teamwork example as well as high-level recommendations that were worthy of a team of professionals.

Even though the team did not make it to the final round as only three teams were selected, their performance was impressive given the level of other competing teams and the complexity of the fictional scenario presented in this year's competition.
